Instrument Appraisals
Are you the owner of a vintage string instrument? Have you inherited a stringed instrument from a friend or relative and have no idea what it is or what it is worth? Bring it in to Frantic Frets and we can provide you with some of the answers to your questions. and help evaluate the instrument. We also do restoration work and will make recommendations on the scope of work that should be considered.
Maybe you have decided you do not wish to keep the instrument. We may be able to purchase or consign it for you. If Frantic Frets, purchases the instrument, we will credit the cost of the appraisal.
Our report will include photos of the subject instrument, and if available comparable instrument if resources are available. We will note and identify the condition if the instrument, any repairs that have been made, any repairs/restoration work we do, note any damages that will affect the value, and provide you with an estimated resale value and valuation for insurance purposes. All appraisals are the opinions of Frantic Frets and values may fluctuate with current market conditions.
Our basic appraisal without photos is $50. An appraisal with more detail and photographs will range from $75-$150 based on the number of research hours. Rarer and older instruments require more research. Some items may not have identifying marks from the maker and additional research is required to identify the instrument correctly.
If you have any provenance for the instrument, provide us with photos of the items or bring them in with the item(s). What items are important? Original case, regardless of shape, any original hang tags, brochures, original receipt, service receipts, photos of the instrument being played by the original owner, etc. These items all add value to the instrument.
Appraisals may take up to two weeks or more. When you bring the instrument in we can give you an idea on the turn around time.
